Maria Alexandrova’s Moscow debut as Nikia on 9 October, will be followed on 10 October by Ruslan Skvortsov’s debut as Solor, while on 11 October, it will be Natalia Osipova’s and Ivan Vasiliev’s turn to make their lst appearance in these two roles in La Bayadere at the Bolshoi. 04.10.2009

At a Samsung Electronics press conference, heldin the atrium of the Bolshoi Theatre Auxiliary Wing, it was announced that to mark the Company's 18th anniversary of partnership with the Bolshoi which falls this year, Samsung had been promoted to official Bolshoi Theatre sponsor. This rise in its sponsorship status is of course due to Samsung Electronics' active participation in the life of the Theatre. One of the Company's most notable sponsorship projects in recentyears, has been the technical renovation of the Bolshoi Theatre Music Library and naturally this project was at the centre of attention at the press conference.

It was all go at the opening of the Bolshoi’s 234th season: never before had the press conference on the Theatre’s future plans (traditionally attracting a maximum number of journalists), the Company Assembly and the first performance of the new season, all taken place on the same day. And if one bears in mind that at the press conference the Theatre’s new music director was presented and plans were revealed not just for the forthcoming season, but also for the two following seasons there can be no doubt that in the field of ballet, opera and music the Bolshoi today has become a major newsmaker.

The New National Theatre Ballet Company (otherwise known as NNTB), part of Japan’s New National Theatre Tokyo (NNTT) performing arts center — see below, is setting off on the 2nd foreign tour in its history. In Japan, the Russian school of classical ballet is greatly revered and one of the main bearers of its traditions is, of course, the Bolshoi Ballet. And the fact it is the Bolshoi Theatre who will be playing host to New National Theatre Ballet causes the Japanese dancers to prepare for the tour with particular care, all the more so as appearing with them will be Svetlana Zakharova — Bolshoi Theatre prima ballerina and, at the same time, NNTB principal guest artist.
